An Excerpt from “The Devil's Game”

By Marti A. Silent

When the first woman

Was met with the sight of the

Grotesque

The heavens comingled

With the flares of sin.

Beauty

Met the mark of the beast

And the hand that led the damned

Took only what God could give

And that of which only

The Devil

Could take away

In exchange for

Your secret.

What keeps you quiet?

Hush Hush.

The children are sleeping.

And shall they wake

Would come to find

That they are now grown

With no memory of their youth

Innocence

Unnamed.

Someone took their toy

Off the grave

And were reborn

Into the woman

That first man

Would claim as property

Of his own.
