What's a Marti?

Uh, good question.

Marti A. Silent delves into the arts in whatever way she possibly can. Marti is an independent film director, cinematographer, screenwriter, and visual development artist working in pre-production for animated and interactive media. She's also a cosplayer and costume designer with a little bit of D&D dungeon mastering, and dystopian-fantasy writing on the side.

Marti got her start in the arts pretty early on in life. Borrowing her dad's Wacom tablet forever and never giving it back served as her outlet into the digital arts. Grabbing a pocket camera and a few cousins made it easy to make a few dozen unpublished "YouTube videos." And by teaching herself how to use programs like Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, and After Effects, Marti created her first digital art pieces and edited her first videos by the ripe age of 12 years old.

In her freshman year of high school, Marti found herself competing in the district's 1st Annual High School Film Festival with her first-ever short film (starring those cousins mentioned earlier.) Taking away 2nd place that year, Marti found her niche. With more films, she entered the same festival the next year, and the next year, and the next. By graduation, after launching a TV media show by the name of Cowboy TV (with the help of the school's chaotic graphic design teacher), Marti took away two 2nd place awards and two 1st place awards for Best Student Film in her district for the years 2010-2014.

After high school, Marti would go on to a 4-year university to study film at California State University, Monterey Bay. During her studies, she volunteered to work on senior capstones, gaining experience from different on-set and off-set roles ranging from boom op, gaffer, director of photography, colorist, sound designer, production designer, costume designer, prop designer,  and the works.

Marti's studies and on-set experiences would eventually lead up to her final year where she would begin the year-long journey of her own Senior Thesis. Using the skills and knowledge gained throughout the previous 3 years, Marti worked to write, direct, and design her Senior Capstone, now an award-winning short film entitled Sunflower Soup.

With this Senior Thesis, Marti graduated with honors, Magna Cum Laude, with a bachelor's degree in Cinematic Arts and Technology.

With this degree and an optimistic outlook, Marti is on her way to conquering a life filled with arts of all kinds, music of all sounds, and whatever else it is that might be thrown at her. You know, like lemons. Let's see how these cookies crumble.
